Embird on a Mac

Hello, I am a Mac user, can I download Embird into my Mac (I have installed the new Mac Embroidery software) don’t know if that helps for this or not…. )

I would like to know before I spend $$ I would like to get away from my PC as it is troublesome to say the least, need to know if I will have to replace my PC or can Mac do this program??

Leslie

Hi Leslie,

Embird is intended to be IBM PC compatible, but many users run Embird successfully on a Mac with a Microsoft PC simulator.

You can download the demo version of Embird for 30 days or 100 trials (what ever comes earlier) so that you have the possibility to test all features of Embird before you register it and ensure it works on your computer.

If you have any further queries please just let us know.

  1. I am using Embird successfully on a Macbook Pro running Windows XP on a virtual Machine. You can download Sun’s Virtual Box for free, so the only expense is a Windows license if you don’t already have one (I did since I switched from a PC).
It takes a little tweaking to get USB devices, printers, etc connected, but it is possible

  2. Hi Carolyn, I have just bought a Pfaff creative 2.0 and was offered the 5D software with it. I had before a Singer XL6000 and used the Embird software and was satisfied. What is your recommendation, do I have to buy the Pfaff software or can I use successfully use my Embird software. The only short come I have found out is I cannot find the exact new hoop sizes in Embird for creative 2.0. Regards, Mathilde Pester

  3. Hi Mathilde
The Pfaff Creative 2.0 uses the VP3 format which is supported by Embird so you will be able to successfully use Embird with your new machine as well. I don’t thin that it is worth spending a whole lot of extra money on software when you already have software that you are familiar with and will do the job really well for you. 🙂 If you cannot find the exact hoop in Embird just pick a hoop that is close in size to that which you need or create a Custom hoop under the Custom Hoop TAB. If your machine is relatively new to the market it’s possible that Embird does not have all the hoops in their list yet, but rest assured, it won’t be long before they are all added. Did you check this page at the Embird web-site for your hoops?

  4. HI, I have a Mac and before I purchase Embird I want to know if it is compatible with it and if I have to partition my Mac and buy Windows. I’ve known other people who can switch back and forth between the Mac and Windows platform and it screwed their system up. Please let me know. I really don’t want to purchase another laptop. Thanks for your help.

  5. Hi Carol,

What it may be best to do is to download the trial version of Embird and test it out on your Mac before you purchase it. You have 30 days to trial it.

Carolyn Keber has a mini tutorial covering how to go about installing Embird on a Mac available for purchase from the Secrets of Embroidery site – you may wish to also have a look at that if you require further assistance.

    Good Luck

  6. I have embird installed on two PC’s (1 desk top and 1Lap top). I just purchased a Mac and will be retiring the desk top PC as it is very old and outdated. Is there a way I can uninstall Embird off the PC I am retiring and installing it onto my new Mac

  7. Hi Pat,

Embird is intended to be PC compatible, but many users run Embird successfully on a Mac with a Microsoft PC simulator.

Carolyn Keber, our Embird expert uses Embird on a Mac herself, and has written a short tutorial on Installing Embird on a Mac which you can see here.

  8. “Running Embird does involve purchasing extra software ” from your post, how much is this software? I’d like to know before upgrading Embird and purchasing your tutorial.

  9. The program Carolyn Keber recommends to purchase so you can use Windows on your Mac is around USD $80.00. You will also need to purchase a Windows operating systm (OEM is fine). You could shop around for the best price.

  10. The last comment on the subject of Embird software on a Mac is last year. I recently purchassed an iMac (love it!) but miss using my Embird software. Is there anything in addition to Parallels and Windows software that I would need before purchasing Embird? I’m assuming from the prior conversations that I need both software: Parallels and Windows? Is that correct.

  11. Hi Carol,

Yes, that’s correct. Have a look further up the comments for the link to Carolyn Keber’s tutorial on using Embird on a Mac.
