When you see what Tracey Carrall did with Secrets of Embroidery’s top design of 2018, you will be saying, “Why didn’t I think of that?â€
One of the best reasons to join the Secrets of Embroidery Facebook Group is for of all of the wonderful project ideas, tips, and tricks. This week, I am featuring Tracey Carrall’s brilliant use of scraps in her tree skirt project.
The Snowman Christmas Tree Skirt project from Ananda’s Divine Designs was the Secrets of Embroidery number one most popular machine embroidery design of 2018. The project is made up of 12 panels, each consisting of three individual designs made in the 6 x 8 hoop. Each piece is finished off with a satin stitch outline for easy joining, so it like creating 12 individual applique panels. Of course, that means a backing is necessary and that is where this great idea unfolds.
We have featured tips for saving fabric scraps and this is a good reason to start. Tracey used scrap fabrics for the back of each tree skirt panel. The back won’t be seen so why not?
Of course, the scraps also come in handy for the smaller applique pieces too. Great job, Tracey!
