Red, White, and Beautiful!

Celebrate in style with a lovely wall hanging depicting a favorite summer pastime.

Parades and fireworks are a right of summer passage. The 4th of July Appliscape from Anandas Divine Designs captures small-town Americana so beautifully.

Secrets of Embroidery Facebook Group member Jan Catron stitched this lovely wall hanging and was kind enough to share it. The appliscape concept, a scenic landscape constructed from applique sections, is much easier than it appears.

Nine individual block designs are stitched out with a combination of applique and embroidery. Edges are finished off in satin stitching, just like freestanding applique. When complete, the blocks can then be stitched together, often with a zig zag stitch to secure satin stitch edges of adjacent blocks.

Designs are included in 5×5, 6×6, and 7×7 sizes making finished sizes of 15×15, 18×18, or 21×21 inches in size. Fun novelty fabrics are ideal for applique sections of a cloudy sky, grass, or stone walkways.

The finished appliscape could serve as the center medallion of a quilt, table cover, or pillow. Jan added hanging loops to hers, and a star hanger adds the perfect finishing touch. It completes the ensemble and gives the project a professional and polished appearance.

Nice job, Jan!
