Fabulous Florals

Floral designs are particularly lovely. These techniques will make them a year-round delight!

I believe most people appreciate the beauty of embroidered flowers but there are ways to make them even more extraordinary.

Stitch on Mylar

Flower petals often shimmer in sunlight. Mylar imitates this delicate natural phenomenon in designs specifically digitized for the technique.

Spring Illusions with Mylar from All Sorts of Embroidery can be stitched with or without Mylar. The addition of this sparkly film behind open stitching allows the design to shine.

Freestanding Lace

By its very nature, freestanding lace projects are ideal as ornaments or sun catchers. Floral Baskets 2 from Ace Points Embroidery would also be quite lovely as a bookmark or gift tag.

Fussy-Cut Applique

With an abundance of pretty floral fabrics, it only makes sense to fussy cut flower motifs to use in applique designs like Amazing Applique Quilt Blocks from Ovistin in Africa. The designs finish off with delicate lace-like edging for a true work of art.

Bold on Black

If you want to make a brightly embroidered design really stand out, stitch it on a black background. Brightly colored threads in Butterfly Blocks in Style from Kreations by Kara are almost luminescent

Add a Monogram

Monograms and floral accents are trademarks of traditional heirloom style. Stitching Cassandras Whitework Alphabet from Graceful Embroidery in soft pastels on a light silk dupioni background makes for a personalized gift unlike any other.

Quilt in the Hoop

Flowers have long been a staple in quilt designs. String Quilt Blocks 2 from Stitch Delight combine lovely florals with gorgeous quilting, all done right in the hoop.
