Embellishing the Season of Abundance

Kick your seasonal embroidery up a notch or two by using these techniques and designs that are 70% off this week!

Harvest time has always been a time of thanksgiving. You can stitch up some stunning embroidery for your holiday decorating using a few tricks of the trade.

Mylar

Designs like Delicate Fruit from Ace Points Embroidery with solid outlines can be stitched almost like an applique. Most will run a row or two of straight stitching followed by underlay stitching before the final embroidery. Just stop your machine after the first complete outline of stitches. Place a piece of mylar on top of the stitches. Re-run the initial outline stitches. Trim away the mylar and continue the embroidery.

Markers

Any design with open areas like Bluework Garden from Designs by Petro can be colored. Check out this tutorial to see just how easy it is to make.

Motifs

Any project that needs quilting can benefit from using complementary motifs. Whether it is a table runner or wall hanging, you can add quilting by stitching designs like Fall Leaves from SewAZ Embroidery.

Make it Shine

By embroidering on organza, you can create projects that allow the light to shine through. These candles used Forever Fall and Autumn Scrolls from Kreations by Kara. See how it is done with this tutorial.

Metallics

Add a bit of sparkle with metallic thread. Fall Into Autumn from Allstitch is a perfect example. Metallic threads can be intimidating but they make designs come to life, especially when stitched on a solid black fabric for lots of contrast.
