Blog Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to login to the Secrets Blog to use it?
No, you do not need to log in or subscribe to anything to read or contribute comments to the Blog. Once you have clicked through to the Blog page you are able to access all the postings that are there.

How do I see the latest postings?
When you first click through to the Secrets Blog you will see the latest entries in the middle of the screen. On the right hand side is the navigation menu. The titles of the most recent postings are shown at the top right, followed by a list of categories (the number in brackets shows how many postings are in that category), next is a list of monthly archives, and then there are the login (for admin only) and search prompts.

How do I add a comment?
Under each posting is a “Comments” link, just click on this to view any comments that have been made on the posting and at the bottom you will see a form where you can leave a comment of your own. You must enter your name and email address (will not be shown) and also remember to click the “Submit Comment” tab when you have finished.  Try to keep your comment relevant to the posting.

Can I start my own discussion?
Yes, you can.  If you have a question or issue you would like to see on the Blog follow the instructions on this page.

How do I contact Carolyn K, Carolyn D, Bonnie, Ursula or the other experts on the blog?
All queries or comments for our panel of experts can be sent to questions@secretsof.com and we will direct them to the correct person(s).

How do I find information on a problem I have?
If you don’t want to read through the postings as they are first displayed (ie latest first), then just click on one of the categories to see the postings for that subject. Or type in a search word (eg redwork) to find all the listings that mention that particular word.

Will all comments or queries be shown on the Blog?
Our moderator will make sure that comments and questions are not offensive before approving them.  If you would like to keep a discussion “private” please let us know when you write the comment or question.

Has anyone had the chance to do a comparison of the Husqvarna diamond and the Bernina 830. I would love to hear your views.

I have 5D Embroidery Extra and am wondering if I can import purchased fonts into the My Font (or other category) so I can type lines of text vs. 1 letter at a time.

thanks!

No you cannot import purchased fonts into My fonts to make letters. In My fonts you can only make your own fonts from scratch using any Windows True type font. I have been meaning to do a tutorial on this section for some time.

What you have to do is treat each letter of the font you have purchased as a separate embroidery and open them in Embroidery Extra. When you have a word, select all and Encore as a line to get the positioning you want. You can then line up each word using the Alignment tools. Takes a little longer but the results are really worth it and in the long run you often get a better result than some of the fonts you make yourself in My fonts. Not all fonts made in My Fonts embroider well.
