Removing Underlay

Query -

When combining designs where part of of one design overlays another, how do you remove the underlay using Embird? Thank you - Faye Ariel

Answer -

Hi Faye

In Embird Editor use the Edit/Mask feature. It works wonderfully well.

Best of luck

Small Embird Alphabet

Query -

I need advice for creating really small letters ( less 1/4″ ) for quilt labels.  I have several of the Embird alphabets (1-6, 11) and I have printed out labels using them.  But I feel that the resulting letters are too dense and heavy looking to be attractive. Is there a particular Embird alphabet that is more suitable for this purpose? - Donna

Answer -

Hi Donna

If you are wishing to make quite small letters as you have mentioned then it may be advisable for you to consider creating your own lettering using the Outline Tool in Studio (single Running stitch or Redwork lettering) or alternatively check out the Embird text number 22. You may not like the font style of text style 22 though and I have not stitched it out myself so am not sure what the result is like. Personally - if you are making quilt labels then I would try making the lettering myself in Studio. I hope that helps.

Color Change After Download

I purchase embroidery designs over the net. However, when I choose HUV, sometimes the colors change after I download it to my computer. This miss-coloring remains. How do I guarantee that the design/colors I am purchasing will be what I actually get? Thank you - Ahma

Janome Tensioning Issues

Filed under: Can You Help?, Janome / Artista

I bought my MB4 last year right after they came out. I don’t know if I madea good decision or not. I am on my second one. The seller finally gave me a new one because he couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. I have major trouble with my tension. My top threads are making loops and my bobbin thread doesn’t even show up underneath.Example, I’m sewing with red top thread and black bobbin thread but it shows red thread top and bottom. I have adjusted both tensions until I’m blue in the face. Any suggestions would be very helpful. - Catnip

Best way to learn Embird?

Filed under: Can You Help?, Embird-Carolyn K

What do you suggest would be the best way to start learning Embird? I have upgraded to 2008 but have never done anything with the program and, as my New Year’s Resolution, learn this program. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you for your help.

I bought the 11000 and the sales lady told me it would be perfect to start my own business with that is a joke, there is so much that it will not do , so she lied!!!!! So now i have a 6, machine that i do not like. I can not go into a business not being able to do things like pocket books and such. maybe someone can help me. I tried to monogram on pants and it was not wide enough to place on the hoop like it should would a cap hoop let me do things like this, I just hate to buy one because I am not going to use it for caps. Also what do you do if your material is the knit material that slides and will not stick to the stablizer.

Monogramming: Where to Now?

Query -

I have sewn all my life, but two years ago I bought a Baby Lock Ellure (Model BLR), primarily to monogram gift items for my two daughters and their friends. I purchased the Palette Software, which was updated to version 6.08, but I feel limited with fonts and layouts.

I think I know just enough about this program to use its monogram capabilities, and although I recognize that my Ellure/Palette is capable of a great deal more embroidery, it is the monogramming that interests me most. Can you please advise me on how to become more comfortable with this machine, and also direct me to software which will offer a better selection of fonts and lettering layout options?

Many thanks, Claire

Answer -

Hi Claire

Sorry for the delay in answering but it’s that time of the year when we are all on holiday here as the days are glorious and the sun is forever shining. My family are still staying with us at the moment but I just had to sit down and do some work today otherwise I’ll be bogged down in my office for months to come…

I have checked out your Babylock Ellure that you wish to become familiar with and have come up with some suggestions for you.

I have some lettering/text lessons available for Palette V6 which could help you create your monogramming or lettering. You might like to check them out but this one I thought would be helpful to you. It’s called Creating Badges and Patches.

Here’s a little bit of information from the site about what’s in the lesson.

  • Appliqué Wizard
  • Changing the Sewing Order/Color
  • Importing a Design
  • Adding Text
  • Fitting Text to Path
  • Stitching the Badge or Patch

I think that will get you started on your software. Palette V6 is the same as PE Design V6. You won’t need any other software for now to get you started in the world of embroidery. It’s a great program and I would advise you to do as many of the lessons as you can in order to learn it. I am sure that you will find it worth your while.

Just remember that you have a limit to the size of your embroidery field (hoop size) which is 5″x7″. I have also included a link for the machine itself as there are some free projects on the Babylock web-site for this machine. It might be fun to download and follow the lessons as this way you will get familiar with your machine. Good Luck.

I have also attached another link for you. It’s a link for a downloadable book which was written by Susan Hedeman and although it is titled “Love your Brother” you will find loads of very useful information in it which will help you with your machine. The Babylock and Brother machines are very similar and have a lot of the same functions and buttons so I am sure that you will find it very useful.

I hope this information is helpful to you. I wish you every joy with your machines and software. You have made a wise choice as there is always plenty of information available and people to help when you need it.

Adding Designs to Memory Stick

I have a Designer 1 machine and I recently got the 4D Embroidery software  I am having problems sending the patterns to my stick.  When I pick send 1 it tells me that it is going to clear off my stick first before it saves the pattern on it.  I do not want that I just want to add to the stick and leave everything else on it.  Can you help me?

Thank you,

Jackie

Dear Jackie,

Unfortunately this is the way that disk manager works for the D1.  All you need to do is to first read the stick and all the designs on it will appear on the computer. Add the new design(s) that you want and then send all the designs back to the stick.

Just imagine that to you want to add clean socks to a drawer but first you had to empty the drawer  to a pile on the floor ,and then include the new socks in the pile and then refill the drawer.

You get used to it after a while.

Husqvarna 3D Embroidery reader/writer problem

Filed under: Can You Help?, Husqvarna Viking

HELP!  Extremely frustrated and almost to the end of my rope.  Have used Viking emb software since 1996.  My old computer had Windows ME.  Both my Customizing 5 and 3D Emb worked just fine.  Have since upgraded to Vista and have had nothing but problems since.  I have not been able to load the Customizing 5 software on Vista.  I know 3D is supposed to be better, but I like using the Customizing 5.  That is my first problem.  I put the disk in the drive and nothing happens.

The second problem is 3D does not recognize my reader/writer.  I have both the Rose and the Designer I.  I configured the software upon installation for both machines.  As the new Vista computer did not have a parallel port to hook-up the reader/writer, I ordered a cable (from a cable company) with a 25 pin end for the reader/writer and the other end with a USB connection to plug into the computer.  I get an error “reader/writer not found.  I know I can’t be the only person with this problem.

How do I get the reader/writer box to work?  Could they possibly have made it to only work as a parallel connection to a computer?  If I put in a parallel port, will it work then under Vista?  Advise would be so very greatly appreciated.  I hate looking at the Rose and thinking I now just have a super expensive sewing machine.

Thanks,

CC
