Stumpwork Tutorial
by Lodia Da Silva

Stumpwork is a traditional hand embroidery technique where you embroider over wire and then shape the objects such as flower petals to take on a realistic 3D effect. These designs can be used in a variety of ways depending on the design you use. Insects such as butterflies and bees look very nice on tea nets or lace curtains.
Most Stumpwork designs have a background that will be embroidered on a fabric and then the stumpwork objects get added as loose 3D pieces.
In this tutorial you will learn specialized techniques to digitize the different steps to allow you to embroider over the wire instead of putting the wire in by hand after the embroidery has been done. There are some advanced techniques covered in this tutorial.
