Downloading Designs

Sending Designs to the Artista Sewing Machine
Here is the way you can easily send designs that are open in your software to your Bernina artista Sewing Machine.
I make sure my Bernina Artista Sewing machine is turned off and connect my serial cable that came with the artista Software to the machine and my computer. Also, connect the embroidery module to the machine. Now turn your machine on. You will see a picture of the module. A little bear on the artista Sewing machine screen represents the Personal Design Card.
Methods to Send Designs to Machine
We will now work in the computer. In the artista software, you will see a red sewing machine on the below tool bar area. Left mouse click on it. |
OR
· Left Mouse click on File from the top menu bar and Left mouse
click on Write to Machine.

You will see the below screen for the serial/com port for your computer. Your computer is setup uniquely different from others. You will need to refer to your owner’s manual or technical support for your computer to determine what your settings are. |

You should see choices for all Four Com ports. If not, see your dealer for obtaining a Service pack.
After choosing your COM port for your computer, you should see the below screen. You have a choice of Download to the blank card or Embroider, which sends your design to your machine to only be sewn out. By Downloading your design to a Personal Design card you will be able to resize, rotate, or do editing in the machine. You will also be able to save the design in the memory in the embroidery module. This could be a design you use quite frequently. |

Selecting Embroider sends the design as is to the machine. Embroider will not allow you to resize, rotate, edit or save your design in the Artista Sewing machine. All editing of the design will need to be done in the software on your computer, and then sent to the Sewing Machine. By choosing the Embroider option, once you turn your machine off, the design is no longer is available to embroider. You will need to redo the above steps.
Opening Designs from the Embroidery Module in the Artista Machine
You can also open designs from your Embroidery Module in your machine to the software using the below steps:

Make sure your machine is turned off and your embroidery module is connected to the machine.

Turn your Bernina artista Sewing Machine on.

Press the Module Icon on your Machine to allow designs from the embroidery module to appear.

Select the design you wish to sew.

Once the design is in the machine, you can also go to layout 1 and do any rotation and resizing you wish to the design.

You may sew your design out from this point. |

Sending Embroidery Module Designs to the Artista software
Uploading designs from the embroidery module to your computer is as follows:

Make sure your machine is turned off and plug the serial port cable to your machine as well as the computer.

In order to upload a design from embroidery module to the computer, you will need to save the design to the Personal Design card.

Select on the module on the opening screen

Select a design from the Module

Touch the layout 1 button.

Then touch mem.

The module and little bear are blinking.

Insert the Personal Design card in your machine. This will let the machine know you want the design saved to a card.

The Personal Design card (Little Bear) should be selected. If you are still having both the module and Bear blinking, you may have the wrong card in the module or a defective card.

Your design now is saved to the Personal Design Card.
Uploading Designs from Cards to the Software
If it is a design you wish to use in the software from the artista Design card, all you need to do is have the card in the embroidery module and do the following:
Now we are working in your computer.
Open the artista software. Left mouse click on File.
Then click on Card/Machine Read |

Depending if you have previously sent or retrieved designs from the machine to the software, or vice-versa, you may or may not see the below screen for the serial/com port for your computer.
(If you have just previously sent or retrieved a design, you will not see the below pop-up screen.)

Left mouse click on the design name you wish to retrieve from the left hand column. |

An image of the design appears on the right. Left mouse click on Retrieve and your design is being sent from the machine to the software to allow it to be edited.
