Internet to Machine

Internet to Machine - Husqvarna Viking

Downloading Designs

When you download a design from the internet it could be in one of three forms:

1. Specially formatted for the Designer 1 - these files are self extracting zips and will have the file extension .exe33

e.g.

2. A Hus formatted file contained within a zip folder with a .zip extension

e.g.

3. A file that is in another format such as .PES – brother format – usually contained within a zip file as in 2 above

Type 1: Self extracting Designer 1 files

So far I have only found these files on the various Viking websites and they are usually downloads for the mega hoop designs.

When you click on the file you will see the following window

Follow the prompt and insert a blank disk, or one which has files that are no longer needed, into A drive. The next step will remove all existing files on the diskette

Click OK

The following screen will now appear

Check that the correct drive letter is shown and click Unzip

A progress bar will open showing the transfer of files to the disk

When finished the following window appears

Your disk is now ready to insert into the Designer 1 machine

This new disk will have the file structure as shown above. This is the format for all disks for the designer 1. To embroider the designs place this disk into the Designer 1 and simply press the little disk symbol on the touch screen – the stitch files will then be displayed on the touch screen for selection

Type 2: Winzip files containing a HUS formatted file

If you download a file that has a .zip extension such as you will first need to use Winzip or Buzz Tools to extract the HUS file.

Once you have the file the first step is to make sure that the file is centred.

To do this you will need to open the file into the Customiser programme

· Open Customising Pro ( or equivalent)

· Load the first file to be centred using either of the following

File Open Design View

Either will enable you to navigate through the computer system to find the drive and folder to open up. To see the files double click on the folder

File open Design View

Open the drive and folder where you have designs you want and load only one into the customiser window.

If the design is centred when it opens into Customiser then it can be sent to the reader writer or to disk manager to be converted to the Designer 1 format.

If the design is not centred as shown below then it will need to be centered first.

To centre the design just click on the Centre Design icon and it will automatically centre. This step places s jump stitch from the centre of the design area to the start of the design.

Save the now centred design.

If you are told that the design is too big for the hoop to be opened the design is probably extending over the edge of the frame for the hoop selected.

Change the size of the hoop to a larger version using the Stitch Area Dimensions icon

Now that the design is centred then you will need to use either

Ř Disk manager to convert the file to shv format for the Designer 1

Ř The Reader/ Writer to send to a blank machine card.

Type 3: Files That Are In Another Format

To Convert files from another format using Format Conversion Pro

If the zip file does not contain a Hus formatted file then you will need to convert the file provided to the Hus format using conversion software such as Buzz tools or the Viking Format Conversion Pro.

As "Ann The Gran" has a variety of designs that are sent as PES format I will show the steps needed to convert a PES to HUS format.

 Open Format Conversion Pro

 Use the window that opens to locate the file that you want to convert

 Click Open

 The processing bar will show a series of blue shapes as it loads in the file to be converted.

 The lower bar will show that the designs are loaded

 Click on the Hus button in the export area.

 Select the drive and folder that you want to save the new HUS version of the file into and click OK

You have now converted the file into Hus format and can use the steps described above to now convert it to a shv file for the designer 1 or send it to a machine card using the Reader/writer software.

Note on Dongels

Dongels need to be treated carefully – if you remove it from the computer make sure that the computer if turned OFF and UNPLUGGED BEFORE REMOVING THE DONGEL.

Converting HUS to SHV for the Designer 1

1. Open and this screen will appear

2. If you want to load in files from a diskette you will need to click on the READ DISK icon on the top toolbar.

However if the files are inside a folder you will get the message that the disk is empty and no files can be found. This shortcut can only read disks that have no folder structure. To load files from a folder or from your hard drive you will need to use the FILE OPEN shortcut or the Open command on the drop down menu under File.

Either will enable you to navigate through the computer system to find the drive and folder to open up. To see the files double click on the folder

Open the drive and folder where you have designs you want

1. To select individual files hold the control key and click on the files then on Open.

2. To select a group of files select the first and then with the shift key held select the last file. Release the shift key and all the files selected will load into the disk manager

3. Another way of loading files is to use the thumbnail images in File View

4. when you locate the folder where the files are stored you can just click on the OK button and the files will be loaded into the Design View window

5. To scroll through the files use the two arrow buttons on the left hand side of the window.

6. To select a design simply left mouse click on the design and it will be loaded into the disk manager screen. Continue clicking the files you wish to select and they will be added. To remove this window click on the close screen button in the top right hand corner of the window.

7. Once the files are loaded into the Disk Manager software it is simply a matter of using the WRITE DISK shortcut icon on the toolbar to send the files to a disk for the machine

8. This step will convert the files displayed in the disk manager software from HUS format to SHV format and will store them into menu1 on the diskette

Using a ReaderWriter to send cards to the machine

The Reader Writer screen is very similar the Disk Manager screen and the steps to navigate it are virtually the same.

1. To load files from a folder or from your hard drive you will need to use the FILE OPEN shortcut or the Open command on the drop down menu under File.

2. Either will enable you to navigate through the computer system to find the drive and folder to open up. To see the files double click on the folder

3. Open the drive and folder where you have designs you want

4. To select individual files hold the control key and click on the files then on Open.

5. To select a group of files select the first and then with the shift key held select the last file. Release the shift key and all the files selected will load into the disk manager

6. Another way of loading files is to use the thumbnail images in File View

7. When you locate the folder where the files are stored you can just click on the OK button and the files will be loaded into the Design View window

8. Once the files are loaded into the Reader writer software window they are sent to the machine by clicking on the Write Card icon

Read Card icon Write Card icon

9. For detailed information on setting up the connection to the sewing machine and the reader writer look in the help file as show below
