The Lavender Rose Quilt

INSTRUCTIONS

The Lavender Rose Quilt is designed to stitch out so that each block is made up of 4 or  5 designs with each design measuring no more than 4”  (100mm) square.  This will give you an embroidered block 8” (200mm) square.

Start with a 12” (300mm) square piece of material, batting and stitch and tear.  Mark a vertical and horizontal line through the centre of the material.

The top left section is block number 1, the top right is block 2, the bottom right is block 3 and the bottom left is

block 4.

The description of each design will end in either 1, 2, 3 or 4, which corresponds to the block it is to be embroidered in.  No rotating of the designs is necessary.

Using the vertical and horizontal lines, mark each segment with a 4” (100mm) square and make a mark in the centre of this 4” (100mm) square.  Center your design on this mark.

All the colour sequences are the same, starting with the Lavender stem and ending with the Lattice. Where there are only Rose buds the sequence will start with the Rose colour.  When stitching the Lavender, trim only the long jump stitches between the flowers. The rest will be hidden.

You can choose whatever colour you wish for the Lattice, even white. Changing the colour of the Lattice changes the look of the block.  The Rose buds look equally good in yellow, which combines beautifully with the lavender colours.

The Floral designs and Lattice designs have been supplied separately as well as combined, so that you can create your own combinations. Embroider as many blocks as you wish in whatever combination you choose, whether it is for a wall hanging or bed quilt.

Once you block is complete, remove the Stitch and Tear (I left mine in the Lattice), trim your square so that it is 11” square (275mm) and put on your backing material.  You can topstitch around the Lattice, using matching embroidery thread, to join the front to the back.

I put my blocks together using the ‘quilt as you go’ methodYou may choose to have a single piece of material on the back and ‘stitch in the ditch’ to join the front to the back.  There are a variety of designs that will make up in different combinations for quilting the border.

I used the ‘Lavender Rose Circle’ for the centre block of my quilt, with the Lattice Circle stitched in white in the centre, and worked out from there.
