ExpressDesign Wizard Tutorial

by Carolyn Duncan

Available for Immediate Download

Carolyn's new tutorial has been created for the ExpressDesign Wizard found in both the 4D Embroidery Extra and in the 4D Design Creator module.

It is suitable for both Pfaff and Husqvarna Versions of 4D Embroidery Extra.

The tutorial explains how to make designs using the Express Embroidery option of the wizard.

Topics covered in this tutorial are:

  • The Steps in the Wizard
  • Outlines and the "Fit to Size" Option
  • Getting the Stitch Type you Want, and Getting it Where you Want
  • Using Microsoft Paint to Edit Images
  • Using 4D Design Creator Picture Tab Tools
  • Backgrounds, Underlay and Color Picking
  • Strange Designs and Other Weird Stuff

Each stage of the wizard is explained and the various options are discussed.  Below are brief explanations on what is covered in the tutorial.

The first two exercises use simple images that are provided with the tutorial so that you can learn what each of the settings in the wizard will do to alter the look of the eventual design.

Click each of the following images for a larger, clearer view.

Pictured above, an iris image is used to introduce you to the steps in the ExpressDesign Wizard using the default settings and some of the issues with these settings.

Pictured above, a simple geometric image is used to start to move away from the default settings and utilize the Picture Options Tools to achieve specific outlines.

Above, a more detailed image is used to look at the problems associated with Fill Stitch Type.  Image editing is used to produce the results you desire.

The above image is from an exercise contained in the tutorial which looks at the advantages and disadvantages of the Fit to Rectangle and the Fit to Hoop options available.

Above, a more difficult image is used to show the use of the editing functions with the ExpressDesign Wizard for selecting colors and altering background settings.

The above image is used to show how you can combine editing within the ExpressDesign Wizard and an external image editor such as Microsoft Paint, to create a quality design.

A troubleshooting section is helpfully included to cover some of the weird stuff that can happen when using the wizard.

Packed full of invaluable information, the ExpressDesign Wizard Tutorial is a 49 page document.
