Slippers

Slippers by A Stitch and a Half

Photo Tutorial

Equipment you will need for this project:

  • Choose a design from the A Stitch and a Half Slipper Collection
  • Your choice of fabric
  • Leather or upholstery fabric for soles
  • Lining
  • Batting
  • Thread
  • Stabilizer
  • Adhesive Spray
  • Sewing Machine capable of zig-zag stitch

Click here for a printable (PDF) version of these directions.

Step 1

1st color stop will indicate where the fabric and batting must be placed.

Step 2

Place batting on top of running stitch...and place fabric on top of batting.

Step 3

Batting and fabric will now be stitched simultaneously to the indicated area in the hoop. This is the 2nd color stop.

Step 4

Cut away excess batting and fabric.

Step 5

This is how your project should look at this stage.

Step 6

Remove hoop without interfering with hooped fabric. Turn hoop around...

Step 7

Your lining (we used a piece of leather) will now be attached to the indicated area. Use an adhesive spray to keep lining in place. This will be the "sole" of the slipper.

Step 8

Place hoop back in embroidery machine and stitch next color stop. The lining (or leather in this case) will be stitched to the indicated area in the hoop. Remove hoop without interfering with hooped fabric and this is what is should look like.

Step 9

Cut away the excess lining (or leather in this case).

Step 10

This is what your project should look like at this stage. Place hoop back in embroidery machine and stitch last color stop = satin outline.

Step 11

The sole of your slipper is now finished. This is what the bottom looks like...

Step 12

This is what the inside of the slipper will look like. Remove from hoop and cut away excess stabilizer. (Keep aside for the construction in step 25).

Step 13

Now for the toe panel. 1st color stop will indicate where the fabric and batting must be placed.

Step 14

Place batting on top of running stitch...and place fabric on top of batting.

Step 15

Batting and fabric will now be stitched simultaneously to the indicated area in the hoop. This is the 2nd color stop.

Step 16

Next - follow the color sequence as indicated in your PDF or use your own color scheme to match your fabric.

Step 17

Cut away excess batting and fabric.

Step 18

This is how your project should look at this stage.

Step 19

Remove hoop without interfering with hooped fabric. Turn hoop around...

Step 20

Your lining (we used the same as the top fabric) will now be attached to the indicated area. Use an adhesive spray to keep lining in place.

Step 21

Place hoop back in embroidery machine and stitch next color stop. The lining (same as top fabric) will be stitched to the indicated area in the hoop. Remove hoop without interfering with hooped fabric and this is what is should look like.

Step 22

Cut away excess batting and fabric.

Step 23

Place hoop back in embroidery machine and stitch last color stop = satin outline.

Step 24

This is what your TOE panel should look like. Remove from hoop and cut away excess stabilizer.

Step 25 - Construction

Lay out the panels - right and left. With a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine join the heel and toe sections for the sole. Also join the two panels for the right TOE and the 2 panels for the left TOE.

Step 26

Mark the center of the sole front panels of each slipper.

Step 27

Always start in the center front. With a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine close the seam from the center front to the one side.

Step 28

This is what your slipper looks like now.

Step 29

Again starting from the center front - close the seam joining the last section of the SOLE and TOE.

Step 30

Voila! Your slipper is finished.

Step 31

This is what the bottom of the slipper looks like.

Step 32

This is what the COMPLETED slipper looks like...

These will make a lovely gift, or replace your old slippers.
