Debbie Hicks lives in
Sacramento
,
California
, and enjoys a variety creative pursuits - quilting, embroidery, digitizing and most recently designing patterns. Professionally, Debbie has worked as a medical transcriptionist for the past 20 years, owning a small service, where she learned to use computers. While she had a good knowledge of Windows and computer technology, learning to digitize and work with artwork and graphics files was a whole new world. Debbie had to learn to use many more programs. "It seemed every time I wanted to do something, I had to learn a completely new program, but having gone through this, I would like to share what I've learned with others so they don't have to spend hours and hours taking classes. I can save them time and frustration and most of all help them to be enjoying embroidering."
After realizing many embroiderers face a large hurdle in learning to use their computers and software as part of machine embroidery, Debbie has sought to help others by creating no nonsense easy-to-understand videos to explain what things are and how they work. Her first CD, Connect the Dots - Computer Basics & Beyond, includes 19 lessons and is approximately four hours long. The video covers just the basics of what you need to know without a lot of extras you don't need. Debbie walks through the lessons in a relaxed humorous style to try to keep it fun and enjoyable.
If you have had limited computer experience and would like to know how things work and how to do more with your computer, these lessons can help you. You will learn to do more than you ever imagined.
The video plays on a normal Windows Media Player so it's just a matter of putting the CD into your computer and clicking on the lesson.
Next on the horizon for Debbie is the second in her Connect the Dots series - Making Sense of the Technology - aimed at explaining the choices possible in getting into machine embroidery so that people can make the best choices for themselves when purchasing equipment and software - whether it's trying embroidery on a budget or looking at a home-based business. This CD is planned to be released in the next six weeks. |
