Step by Step Guide for Creating the Landscaping Technique

This guide explains the basic method of creating the Sew ArtfullyYours Landscapes, combining patterns printed on fabric paper, decorative stitching and embroidery designs.

With each Landscaping project purchased, you will receive the book, CD, printable patterns, and detailed instructions on how to create your landscapes.

  1. Cut one piece of the following in the size you need for your finished picture: see the book for exact measurements.

    *Muslin
    *Pellon fusible fleece
    *Tear Away stabilizer

You will need to cut pieces of Sticky paper to fill the hoop along with some extra pieces for patching the Sticky.

  2. Fuse the fusible side of the fleece to one side of the muslin. Place and press, do not scoot the iron.  Use steam and pressure for about five seconds per placement.
  3. Decide which scene you want to do and look on the CD for that folder.
  4. Print the pattern for that scene.
  5. Trace all pattern pieces for the scene you have chosen on the paper side of the fusible web.
  6. After tracing, cut the all the fusible web pattern pieces apart but don't worry about cutting them exactly on the lines at this time.  Just rough cut them.
  7. Press the fusible pattern pieces to the appropriate fabrics.  Do not use steam during pressing in this step.
  8. Cut out the pieces exactly on the lines.  Remove the paper from the back of each piece.
  9. Position and tape the two pieces together of the placement pattern you printed earlier.
  10. Position the placement pattern under the applique pressing sheet.  The pattern will show through the sheet.
  11. Start laying out the scene.  You are going to assemble and press all the pieces together on the pressing sheet, then transfer the entire fused section to the muslin and sky fabric.
  12. When pressing the pieces together,  do not use steam. After fusing, let the scene cool.
  13. Cut one piece of sky fabric.
  14. Postion the fusible web on the sky fabric and press.
  15. Place the sky on the top of the muslin.  The fleece will be on the bottom of the stack.
  16. Lift the assembled picture off the applique pressing sheet.
  17. Position the fused scene on top of the sky fabric and muslin.  Press.
  18. Using the directions in the book, print the applicable hand painted motif for your scene such as the mill, cottage or lighthouse on to printer fabric.
  19. Remove the paper from the printer fabric and press fusible web to the wrong side of the motif.
  20. Cut it out and fuse into position on your scene, see the scene layout in the book for the exact positioning of the motif.
  21. Hoop up a piece of Sticky paper, score the paper and remove it so you will expose the sticky surface.
  22. Using the layout and placement guide in the book, begin your embroidery.  I always try to hoop where I will be able to get as many designs in the hoop as possible.
  23. When you finish that section, gently remove the scene from the sticky paper and patch the opening with some additional sticky paper.
  24. When completely finished with your embroidery, tear any excess stabilizer away.
  25. Place the piece of tear away under the scene, then use decorative stitches or free motion to cover all the raw edges.  Refer to the full color guide on the CD inside the scene folder to see up close pictures of the all the stitching I did on my scene.  This will help you with colors as well.

  26. Frame with fabric strips for borders and place a fabric on for backing as in a small wallhanging or use traditional methods of framing to finish your masterpiece.
  27. Sit back and enjoy your beautiful work.  :o)
