Cindy Talks About Oriental Reflections

Since I was a child, I remember being enamored of the Oriental influence in architecture, home décor, and especially gardens. Growing up in the desert of Arizona, there weren’t many Oriental gardens around, but there were books and paintings. I was always drawn to the simple, clean, asymmetrical lines of anything Oriental.

My first introduction to a real Oriental Garden was Anderson Gardens in Rockford, Illinois.  I know, you wouldn’t think that there could possibly be something this authentic and beautiful in the Midwest.  I didn’t either until I went there.  It was then that I decided that I had to do a book about Oriental gardens and the peacefulness that they invoke.

For some of you, an Oriental garden brings to mind the dragons and the bright colors of a movie epic...I hope you won’t be disappointed.  For me, the Oriental garden is a place of peace and solitude one goes to collect their thoughts and get re-centered on what keeps us balanced and able to go on in our busy and often surreal existence on this planet.

A Japanese garden is designed to allow the visitor to reflect upon the tranquil beauty of nature.  In doing so, one is led away from the stresses of everyday life.  The serenity one feels in the garden instills a sense of calm and enables the visitor to commune with nature and thus one’s self.  In the pages of this book and on the enclosed CD, you will find a new way to recreate the serenity and beauty of an Oriental garden. It is my hope that these methods and designs will assist you in your pursuit of inner peace.

Come along with me while I explain and detail the uses for the information contained herein.

In Oriental Reflections, we have a new concept of creativity.  You will find on the enclosed CD-ROM twelve sets of patterns that are printable on your ink jet printer.  You will find printable placement guides to make assembling your scenes much easier.  You will find pictures of the fabric layouts for guidance in picking fabrics. You will find ten exciting embroidery designs to get you started right away with creating your masterpieces.  And you will find over one hundred, printable motifs to make your creations come to life.  There are pagodas, cranes, tea houses, Oriental ladies, Koi ponds, waterfalls, Mount Fuji, stone bridges, arched bridges, gates, several skies for that special touch and many more things that will make working and designing with this book, an exciting, creative journey.

In the book itself, you will find beginner instructions for learning how to print on fabric sheets, how to create your own fabric sheets using Bubble Jet Set 2000…ideas for creating your own fabric sections using clip art and some of the hand painted backgrounds, methods for creating small ferns, shrubs and trees using your built in stitches, suggestions for hooping and stabilizing your fabrics and a whole lot more.

I know once you start, it will be hard to stop creating with Oriental Reflections.
