3D Digitizing DVDs

DVDs are sent to you via post and are not available by download. High Quality DVDs are made to play on a DVD PLAYER and television. They will be compatible with your computer only if you can view movie dvd's in Windows Media Player, Windows Media Centre, Real Time Player or other DVD playback systems that require a dvd codex to function.

NTSC format will be automatically sent to the Region 1 countries USA and Canada; PAL format will be sent to orders from all other regions. However if you have a multiregional DVD player the format will not matter. If you do not know what format your country uses, click here to find out, and contact us if the format you require differs.

 3D Digitizing 2 DVD Tutorial
for Husqvarna Viking 3D Digitizing & Pfaff Creative 3D Digitizing

(Not suitable for 4D software)

by Carolyn Duncan

Carolyn Duncan's 3D Digitizing 2 DVD tutorial shows how she used the images from a quilt (pictured below) that she had pieced, to create three designs on that quilt.  The construction of the three designs are described in this tutorial.

Design 1

Carolyn took photos of the pieced sections of the quilt and then used Freehand Satin Stitch and Freehand Curved Satin Stitch tools in 3D Digitizing to create a design that could then be used as an element in Encore to create a Grand hoop design for the centre of the quilt.

This section includes information on the editing that had to be done to get this design symmetrical but still true to the background image.  Carolyn used the grid to hlp with this and also altered the shape of the point in the satin stitch to ensure it stitched out correctly.

Design 2

This design uses Freehand Curved Satin Fill, Freehand Motif Fill and Double Trace to create the design.  The Motif Fill often assumes that it will have a satin border over it and can be quite irregular.

In this section you are shown how to edit and tidy the motif fill to give a good quality edge for the Double Trace stitching.

Design 3

The third design uses the Freehand Triple Stitch tool to work over a photo of another section of the quilt to create a line design unit that is made into a composite design using Encore.

This design is to be used as a quilting design but this freehand technique could also be used for redwork designs.

 3D Digitizing 1 DVD Tutorial
for Husqvarna Viking 3D Digitizing & Pfaff Creative 3D Digitizing

by Carolyn Duncan

Carolyn Duncan's 3D Digitizing 1 DVD tutorial is structured to be a lot more user friendly than dealer demonstrations often are. It is aimed at someone who has not had much experience with the Husqvarna/Viking 3D Digitizing or the Pfaff Creative 3D Digitizing software but does know a little about computers.

The DVD includes some material covered in Carolyn's written 3D digitizing tutorials but new information as well. Carolyn found that she could fit a lot more onto the DVD because it is real time and she can talk it through. Carolyn's easy manner makes this DVD a better learning experience for many people than a written tutorial.

The 3D Digitizing 1 DVD is ideal for those that are just getting into 3D (or even 4D) digitizing. The icon images in the tools have changed in the 4D software, so for someone just starting out with the 4D it may be confusing but for someone who has upgraded from the 3D it should be okay.

You will learn how to:

  • Use the picture tools to create images to digitize
  • Use filters in the Picture Window to improve images
  • Use the Quickstitch Autofill to place stitches
  • Reshape outlines in the Edit window
  • Make different colors visible
  • Edit the Stitch Direction, Pattern and Compensation
  • Learn why you should use compensation in a design
  • How to create .can files and stitch files
  • Freehand Fill vs Quickstitch Fill
  • Eliminate jump stitches
  • Plan stitching order
  • Copy and paste in a .can file to speed up digitizing
  • Import embroideries and .can files
  • The uses of .can files
  • Constant Width Satin Trace, as a border and designs

This DVD tutorial has about 60 minutes of run time.
