Christmas Card 2006 by Emileigh Designs

You Will Need:

  • Christmas Cards 2006 embroidery designs from Emileigh Designs.
  • 1/2 x Yard 45”wide each Red & Green Homespun material. (Imperial measurements)
  • 50 cm of 114 cm wide Red & Green Homespun material. (metric measurement)
  • Hoop-it-all or Hydrostick for positioning designs in hoop
  • Metallic machine needle for use with the Gold Thread
  • 4 x red A4 size cardboard (cut in half this will give you 8 cards)
  • 4 x Green A4 size cardboard (cut in half this will give you 8 cards)
  • Tear away for design backing

  • Iron on Vlisofix or Spray on Craft Glue used to place Designs onto background materials.

 Main Thread Colours

  • Gold or Silver metallic thread.  Whether you use Gold or Silver is entirely up to you.   This thread is for the scrolled background on all portions for your Christmas Cards.

  •

There is a color sheet and pictures included in the design package

     Christmas Card Instructions

  1. Decide what color combination you are going to use.
  2. Cut 8 pieces of material in color of choice measuring 5” x 4” imperial and 12cm x 10cm.
  3.  Cut a piece of Hoop-it-all and place on the hoop bottom side of your hoop as shown in Fig No 1 below.

  4. Place your chosen color onto the Hoop-it-all and make sure it is stuck firmly.
  5. Sew first color. I have used black as the color but it is your choice which color you choose.
  6. Change your normal machine needle to a metallic machine needle and thread with the Gold or Silver metallic thread.

  7. Without removing the material from your hoop – take hoop from your machine and trim your material very closely to the black outline color. See Fig No 3 below.

  8. Connect the hoop back into the machine. And place your normal embroidery backing under your hoop as you would do when sewing normally.
  9. Change back to your normal embroidery needle and continue on sewing the colors in the order shown - you can leave the metallic needle in the machine if you want to save this step.
  10. When the final satin stitch is sewn you will find that the shape will come away in the hoop and there should not be any need to trim the outside of the Octagonal or Circle shape the in the case of the coasters.
  11. Repeat the above – placing a small portion of the hoop-it-all to cover the hole created in the previous sew out with all the portions you need and have chosen

Christmas Card Construction

1.     Cut the 4 x A4 cards in half to make finished size 8 x B5 size cards.

2.     Place the card onto a cutting sheet and under the Fiskers Ovals 1 template and using the 3" x 4" Oval cut out on the front side of the card

3.     Create a verse for your card and print on A4 paper again cut in half to match the size of your card.  Where the oval is in portrait position make sure your verse is printed landscape as below

4.    Where the oval is placed landscape make sure your verse is on the bottom half of your B5 paper and is printed in portrait.  See examples below

5.     Fold and place verse insert inside the card and trim if necessary as shown below.

6.     For each card take one piece of chosen color of homespun 5”x 4” imperial or 12cm x 10cm metric. Iron a piece of Vlisoflex the same size on one side of the homespun.  Carefully tear back the paper leaving the Vlisoflex exposed ready to be ironed to the front face of the verse to go into the card.

7.     Cut and iron another piece of Vlisoflex and iron on to the front of the Homespun that will be ironed onto the back of the cut oval.

8.     Carefully lift the Vlisoflex the same as below.

9.     Place card over the top of the verse and place your design inside the oval and open the card out flat as shown below

10.     Place a piece of cloth  ( I used a terry towling tea cloth) to cover the card and design then iron the card to the verse – this way you will not get a shiny finish on your embroidery and will not melt the gold thread.

Robyn trusts you will have lots of fun using these Christmas Card designs.
