This series of tutorials is for the new 3D Sketch software. As the Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking versions are identical, these tutorials are for both.

3D Sketch 1
This is the first of a series of three tutorials for the 3D Sketch software. The focus of this tutorial is on getting you started with the pen and tablet creating designs with the Free motion and Quilt motion modes.
This 37 page tutorial covers how to install your program and an overview of the various 3D Sketch tools. There are also 8 different exercises included:
- Two exercises working with the pen and table.
- One exercise on stippling.
- Four exercises on using the free motion and quilt motion tools in different combinations.
- One exercise on resizing 3D Sketch designs. This resizing exercise looks at how the endless hoop designs included in the tutorial, can be enlarged into full size quilting designs.
- There is also a fun section on morphing 3D Sketch designs which is suitable if you have the 3D Stitch Editor software.
You will also receive 12 completed designs, as well as step by step versions of some as they were edited and refined. The designs included are in vip, hus and vp3 format.

3D Sketch 2 - Thread Painting
This 35 page tutorial describes two variations of "thread painting" designs using the 3D Sketch software. The first method uses the Freehand tool to "fill in" areas of a design. The fairly open, large leaf design used in the exercise can have a variety of looks by using fabric paint as explained in the tutorial.
The second method uses a combination of the Freehand tool and the Horizontal zig zag tool to fill in the design, resulting in a smaller, denser design more like the traditional freehand machine thread painitng.
The tutorial includes the designs used as examples, in both finished and "in progress" states. These can be viewed in 3D Sketch using the Draw tools to see exactly how each stitch of the design has been made.
The techniques used in this tutorial are mentiond briefly in the User's Guide, but not in detail. Design density and stitch length have the potential to be real problems with "thread painted" designs so Carolyn has devoted a section to editing and adjusting density and stitch length. By using both 3D Stitch Editor and 3D Artist/Studio, Carolyn found she could automatically manipulate the stitch length and density of the design to eliminate potential disasters before they happened. 3D digitizing can also be used to make outline designs to "fill" in 3D Sketch. Even the old PCD software has features that can really enhance a 3D Sketch design.
Anyone purchasing this tutorial should be reasonably familiar with the basics of the software or have worked through the previous 3D Sketch tutorial..
