Christmas Coaster Project

Christmas Coaster Project by Diana’s Dezigns

Make these cute Christmas coasters and/or ornaments quickly and easily in your embroidery hoop.

Materials you will need:

 ·        Christmas Coaster Embroidery designs from Diana’s Dezigns
·        Felt and Cotton Materials for Appliqué
·        Shiny Material and Ribbon if you choose to make ornaments.
·        Embroidery Threads
·        Stabilizer
·        Fine Appliqué Scissors

Christmas Coaster Directions.

1.      Hoop your felt material and stabilizer and stitch design until the second last color.  Remove the hoop from the machine.

2.    Turn the hoop over and cut cotton backing material slightly larger then the appliqué outline.  Use spray adhesive or Wonder Under to hold in place.  Make sure the right side of the material will be facing out, on the reverse side of your hoop.  Put hoop back on machine.

3.    Stitch the next color which will be the appliqué material position outline.  This holds your material in place with a running stitch.

4.    Remove hoop from machine and cut the excess backing material away from around the edge of the appliqué outline.   Hold the backing material gently up, it makes cutting along the stitching easier.  Use a fine tipped pair of appliqué scissors to do this.

5.    Put hoop back and stitch the final color, which is the satin stitch outline.  Remove your embroidery and trim the excess material away from around the satin stitch outline of your coaster.  You now have one complete coaster ready for use.

Turn your coaster into a hanging ornament.

·        If you wish to make your coasters into ornaments, you need to pin a short piece of silk ribbon to the back of your design before adding your backing material.  The pin must be on top side of your hoop and outside the embroidery area.

·     The back of your embroidery hoop will look like this.

·        The front of your embroidery hoop will look like this with the pin well outside the embroidery area.

7
·         Now place your backing material onto the design on the reverse side of your hoop, as per step 2 above.  As this will be used for an ornament, use shiny gold or silver material for effect and here is your end result.
