4X4 FREESTANDING BOOKMARKS

4x4 Freestanding Bookmarks by Designs by Enid

Materials you will need:

·        4x4” Freestanding Lace Bookmark designs from Designs by Enid.

·        Water Solouble Stabilizer, either Aqua Magic, or another Disolvable Stabilizer.

·        Embroidery Threads of your choice.

·        Ribbon

·        Glue

·        Hot Water

4x4” Freestanding Lace Bookmark Directions

1.     Stitch out the Freestanding designs with an ordinary embroidery needle and dissolvable stabilizer.  You can use Aqua Magic or Vilene.

2.    After stitching, remove your designs from the embroidery hoop place the design along with the stabilizer in boiling water.  Leave the design soaking for half an hour to dissolve away the stabilizer (the longer you leave it, the softer the texture of the bookmark will be)

3.    Press the bookmark design lightly with a medium heat iron.  First Place Right side on towel, and then press.

4.    Place the bookmark between abetween layers of tissue paper underneath a weight for a few hours to press the bookmark.

5.    Leave design to dry completely after you have removed the paper and weight.

6.    There are two types of embroiderered bookmarks you can make with these designs. The first type is in one piece and 4” high like this one.

7.    The second type is sewn out in two pieces like this.

8.    After drying you need to thread the lower piece of the bookmark through the slits in the first part of the bookmark like this.

9.    The two parts of your bookmark can now be glued together where they join at the thin top bar of the lower design and at the partition between the two slits.   This gives you a much larger bookmark, but still made in the 4x4” hoop.

10.      Finally attach your ribbon and you have some wonderful completed bookmarks to give away as Christmas Presents.

Enjoy them

Kind regards, Enid
