1.
Choose two pieces of 81/2” by 11” or 12” by 12” paper – one plain and one patterned. I have used red flower paper and cream cardstock by Anna Griffith.
2. Cut both pieces of paper to 10” by 6”.
3. On the “right side” of the cardstock, score 3” from both ends.
4. Hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer. You can also use sticky tear-away stabilizer.
5.
<![endif]>
Apply fabric adhesive or double-sided craft tape to the back one of the 3” inch sections of cardstock. If you are using sticky tear-away stabilizer, you can eliminate this step.
6. Affix paper to stabilizer. Do not hoop the paper! Use the hoop template to center the section to be embroidered in the hoop.
7. Choose a design to embroider. I have sewn a design from the Spring Stipple Collection in red.
8. Take the cardstock out of the hoop, and trim the stabilizer close to the design.
9. Using the patterned paper, score ¾“ from the edge on the patterned side.
10. Apply double-sided tape or craft glue inside the scored section on the wrong side.
11.
Fold and cut edge with a decorative rotary blade or scissors.
12. From the decorative edge, cut the patterned paper 3 ¼ “. |
13.
Adhere this piece to the back of the embroidered cardstock to hide the back of the embroidery and to add interest to the card.
14. Use a decorative rotary blade or scissors to cut a strip of patterned paper 2 “ wide. Adhere to bottom flap of card.
15. Mark a guideline for the cording with a pencil. I have used size 10 red crochet thread for the cording.
16.
Use a cording foot or open hole foot to sew the cording on the guide line. Leave a little extra length at each end.
17. Turn card to wrong side, and fold the cording and extra thread over. Use a small bit of double-sided tape to hold it in place.
18. Cut another 3 ¼ “ strip of decorative paper. Adhere to back of card to hide cording. If a pocket is desired, sew the sides of the card with a zigzag stitch.
19. Now you have a beautiful card, ready to send to your loved ones for Christmas.
