Is Embird 2006 and its plug-ins working with Windows Vista?
The short answer is "yes" for 32-bit edition of Windows Vista, and "yes, except Iconizer plug-in and Ultimate Box+ menu" for 64-bit edition of Windows Vista.

    The detail answer is:
There exist 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista. You can find out which edition of Vista you have on your PC by right-clicking the "Computer" icon on the Desktop,  and choosing the "Properties" command in the popup menu which appears on the screen. Check the "System type:" line in the "System" section of the dialog box which appears on the screen to find out whether you have "32-bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System".

Because current edition of Embird is 32-bit, there should be no problems with running Embird and all its plug-ins in 32-bit edition of Vista. The Iconizer plug-in is functional in 32-bit Vista, however, you should choose "Medium Icons", "Large Icons", "Extra Large Icons" or "Tiles" option for viewing file in Windows Explorer. Windows Vista 32-bit does not display icons in "Small Icons" and "List" view, only "universal type" icon. Ultimate Box+ menu is also functional in Vista 32-bit. These issues were already tested internally and confirmed by Embird Team.

However, the Iconizer plug-in does not work when running Embird in 64-bit edition of Vista. Also, the Ultimate Box+ menu does not work in 64-bit edition of Vista, because the 64-bit driver is required for this card reader/writer box and it is not available from Vikant company yet. All other plug-ins (Alphabets, Font Engine, Cross Stitch, Digitizing Tools and Sfumato Stitch) are functional on PC with 64-bit edition of Vista. These issues were already tested internally and confirmed by Embird Team. There are plans to re-write Embird for 64-bit edition of Vista, but first there must be available development tools for this new Windows, which are announced for the beginning of year 2008.

Also, in 64-bit VISTA, Embird is installed into "C:\Program Files (x86)\EMBIRD32" folder, because this is the folder where 32-bit application should be stored in 64-bit VISTA. This means that when you are installing Alphabets or Studio plug-ins, you should specify "C:\Program Files (x86)\EMBIRD32" folder for installation instead of default folder (i.e. instead of "C:\Program Files\EMBIRD32").

Both edition of Vista do not support Embird's Help .HLP file. However, this issue can be easily solved by clicking "Help > Contents" menu in Embird Manager and following steps which appear on the screen. They will lead you to Microsoft Download Center where you can download the WinHlp32.exe program. After installation of this component, the .HLP file will work again.

If you encounter some other compatibility problems when installing or running Embird with Vista, please try the following
steps which might solve these problems:

Before installing Embird in Vista do the following:

    1. Log-in to your PC with Administrator privileges.
    2. Temporarily switch OFF all anti-virus software.
    3. Select "Start > Settings > Control Panel" menu.
    4. Click "User Accounts" icon in the dialog box which appears on the screen.
    5. Click "Turn User Account Control on or off" link.
    6. Switch OFF the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer".
    7. Click "OK" button to confirm this new setting and agree with Windows restarting.
    8. Install Embird
    9. Enable your anti-virus software.

Once Embird is successfuly installed, please follow these steps:

    1. Aways run Embird 2006 with Administrator privileges.
    2. Move mouse pointer to the icon of the Embird 2006 on the Desktop and click right mouse button for popup menu.
    3. Select "Properties" command from the popup menu.
    4. A dialog box will appear on the screen. Choose "Compatibility" tab.
    5. Switch ON the checkbox "Run this program in compatibility mode" and choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)"
    6. Click "OK" button to confirm this new setting.

Please note you will need to ensure you test the demo version of Embird on your Vista computer before you purchase Embird as there is no refund after registration has been purchased.

    Embird FAQ

    Downloading Embird
You can download the trial version of Embird from this link.  If you are having trouble downloading the program or it is showing as a corrupt file try
disabling your Antivirus and Internet Security programs before downloading as these can corrupt the download file.  Also ensure the program is called embrd2k4.exe  Sometimes the .exe gets removed from the file name and you need to rename the file and add the .exe to install it.

    Embird Registration
Your trial version of Embird will run for 30 days or 100 uses, whatever comes sooner.  You will then need to register the Embird Program from this link.
After you order the Embird Registration you will receive an email from the Embird Company with your password attached.  There is no instant download of the password - you need to wait for this email to arrive.  It should be within 1 business day.

    Where is my Password?
One you have ordered your Embird Registration from the Secrets website, your order is immediately sent onto the Embird Company.  They send all passwords out within one business day.  You cannot download the password - you must wait until you hear from the Embird Company.  If you have not heard within 24 hours please check the following.

    - Do you have any mailbox filters set up in your mailbox program for Embird lists.  We have found that many customers have these filters set up, and the emails with the registration numbers are been filtered into these mailboxes.  Please check your filtered mailboxes if you have any.
    - Check that you can receive files with attachments OK, and your mail box isn’t blocking them.  Sometimes ISPs also block all emails from outside the
    US

    -
Please check your restrictions, If you have still not received your passwords within 24 hours please contact us with the link at the bottom of the page.

I first downloaded Embird from the Embird site, can I now register from your Secrets of Website?

Help, my computer has crashed and I have lost my Embird!  Do I need to re order?
You do NOT need to re-order.  You just need to download Embird and the plugins again from our Embird Download page.  If you need to have your registration numbers sent out again just write and ask for them to be resent. You will need to give them the name that you had previously used to register Embird, in order for them to find record of your order.  You can write to info@embird.com and ask them to resend your passwords out.

Can I get Embird on a CD?
We can send a copy of the Embird program and all the plugins on CD for $10.00.  You can order the CD from this link. The registration numbers for Embird will be sent to you by email and you will need to copy them onto a disk to save them.  We do not send the registration numbers on the CD.

How do I install Embird on a second computer?
The first thing you need to do to install Embird on another computer, is to download the demo program again onto your second computer, if you don't have Internet access on this computer you will need to order a CD and install from that.  If you have a copy of your registration file sent to you from the Embird company you can copy this onto a floppy disk and use on your second computer to register the program.  If you don't have a copy of your password you will need to write to the Embird company and ask them to resend one.  Their address is info@embird.com  and they are always more then happy to resend.  You will need to give them the name that you had previously used to register Embird, in order for them to find record of your order.

When I enter the registration password, it says "invalid password". I have checked and tried it numerous times making sure the letters are the right case.
Use the clipboard method for copying the password from the email you have received from the Embird Company into your Embird program.  Select the password in e-mail by dragging mouse cursor over the password (push the left mouse button while dragging). The selected text should now be highlighted. Push Ctrl and C buttons simultaneously.  This will then copy the password onto the clipboard.  (you wont see anything) Start Embird and go to register password, put the cursor in the box for password and push Ctrl and V buttons simultaneously. This copies the password from the clipboard, the password will appear in the box and you can complete the registration.

I have just downloaded Embird and immediately receive a message that program has expired.

If you have operating system Windows NT the trial version will not work.  You can still trial the program using the designs provided by the Embird Company.  The designs will be found in C:Embird 32/files folder and you can use these to trial the program.

I inserted password into Embird, but Embird is still demo version.
    Please check following:
    * The name of your password file is PASSWORD.KLC (case sensitive). Sometimes this name is changed and the password won’t work.  You will need to rename the password to the correct name before using it.
*Check if you saved file PASSWORD in to proper folder (default folder C:EMBIRD32)
When your Embird program is registered successfully your name will show in the blue bar on the top in Manager.  Click here to see how to enter your password into Embird.

Is Embird compatible with Windows XP?
Embird is functional with Windows XP, but left panel intended for old non DOS formats Barudan FDR, barudan FMC and ZSK is not functional.

Is it possible to use Embird with Windows ME?
Yes, but switch-off Antivirus protection during installation of Embird.

    Iconizer FAQ

    Setting up Iconizer
The plug-in for Iconizer is included with your download of Embird 2003.  You don’t need to download an additional plugin file.  The registration of Iconizer is additional to the Embird Registration though.  Have a look at this link for help to install and register Iconizer.

After installing Iconizer plug-in, I lost the ability to double click on a file and have it open in associated software. The double clicking on the design always opens in Embird. How can I retain the ability to double click and have the design open in the respective software as before Iconizer?
    There are 2 solutions possible:

First solution: Run Embird, click on Options -> Iconizer Settings and uncheck the extension in the dialog box that appears on the screen.  This will allow all files with th extension you have unchecked to be opened in another embroidery program.

Second solution: Open the design in Embrid, but once Embird is launched hit CTRL+O key. This will then launch the software which was previously associated with the file extension before installing Iconizer and you will be able to view the designs with your preferred software.

All my photos now open in Iconizer. How can I stop this?
The reason your photos are opening in Embird after you have installed the program is because you have inadvertently allowed a box to be checked - upon installation of Embird - that tells Embird to open the images instead of your graphics program.

However this option can be reversed in Embird Manager. This is what you need to do -

             - Open Embird Manager.
             - Go to Options on the Menu Bar.
             - Select iconizer Settings.
             - Click on the button "Remove Image Type Files".
             - Click OK.

And while you are in the Iconizer Settings screen, check down the bottom left of the screen and make sure that the box "Verify these file Associations when starting Embird" is not checked. If it is then all your Desktop shortcuts will flicker like crazy every time you open Embird as Embird is checking the file associations. Most people hate that flickering and would prefer it not to happens so un-checking this box will prevent the flickering. Just remember to click OK when exiting the Iconizer Settings screen as this applies the new settings.
