Sashiko Designs 1

It's Double Points Time at Secrets! Find out more.

Sashiko is a very old form of hand sewing using a simple running stitch sewn in repeating or interlocking patterns through one or more layers of fabric. Originally designed for quilting together several layers of fabric for warmth and durability or for strengthening a single layer of fabric, sashiko patterns readily lend themselves to contemporary designs and projects.

Many Asian cultures have utilized sashiko stitching as a sewing technique since ancient times, however, sashiko is most commonly associated with the Japanese.
Patterns were adopted from kimono prints, fabric weaves and nature such as, bamboo, ocean waves, flowers, etc.

Sashiko is a popular style these days, and is used to decorate pillows, table cloths, runners, purses, potholders and many other projects.

The set of Sashiko designs can be sewn out with 40 weight threads, cotton or polyester.   All designs fit the 4 x 4 hoop.  There is also a tutorial for making these designs into placemats.

Keep an eye out for two more collections of Sashiko designs that will be coming out soon.   The second collection will be a set to stitch out with thicker thread for quilting.  The third set will have a variety of angles and curved patterns.
